My passion for health and fitness started with my early dance training right here in Traverse City, Michigan. I was fortunate to dance and perform with Dance Arts Academy and Company Dance Traverse for several years before becoming an instructor, choreographer and Associate Director of CDT. My love of dance and movement inspired me to expand my knowledge, and in 2009 I completed my STOTT Pilates training and certification in Matwork and Reformer. From there, I continued to explore fitness and nutrition and completed my Certification as a personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine and my level 1 Certification from Precision Nutrition. In 2019 I took a deep dive into the Functional Range Systems and completed my FRCms, FRZ and KINSTRETCH certifications and now use this system as a basis for all of our client and class programming.
I am so excited to be bringing my passions for health and fitness to life at Mettle & Moxie. I love helping people build strength and confidence in the gym and watch that carry over into their daily living. I am looking forward to this new journey in this new space and am grateful for the opportunity to help our community grow happier, healthier, and stronger.

Elizabeth Maury
Elizabeth completed her ISSA Certified Personal Trainer certification in the summer of 2020 after several years of dedication to the gym pursuing her own fitness journey. It was both her mental and physical transformation and her love of the gym that inspired her to pursue her personal training education. Elizabeth’s favorite lesson learned from her years in the gym and ongoing pursuit of living a healthy lifestyle is the mental clarity and mood boosting effects that consistent training provide, long after the gym session is over.
Kelly Shanahan
Kelly grew up in Fenton, Michigan and was active throughout her childhood; She played soccer, lacrosse, tennis, and danced. It wasn’t until she moved away to college that she fell in love with lifting weights.
Kelly is a 2020 graduate of Central Michigan University, receiving a B.S. in Exercise Science concentrating in Health Fitness. She is a certified personal trainer through American College of Sports Medicine, as well as a Certified Functional Strength Coach, and a Pain-Free Performance Specialist. She completed her CMU internship at State of Fitness in the Spring of 2020 and was a part of the State of fitness team for two and a half years; this is where she discovered her desire to train, her niche of working with athletes and woman, and helped people to move better and get healthier.
When Kelly is not coaching or training she craves the outdoors and time with her family and friends. Kelly snowboards, longboards, camps, and adores traveling. Kelly loves to hike with her boyfriend, Tyler, and her dog, Rory. Music is a huge part of Kelly’s life as well; she is an avid concert-goer, plays guitar, and sings.
